Chaos Crisis

Dream Couple

Reeve stared at the sky, eyes darting around, looking at each cloud. What was she seeing in them? She never really saw the world as it is.

Dominik resumed drawing a scene from his latest dream. It was a large field with tall grass. A river flowing through it. A creature lived in the river. Dominik only saw it’s thin black arm reaching out of it, taking everyone who came too close to the river, dragging them in the impossible depths of this narrow river.
Reeve yawned. Dominik stroked her hair.
“Don’t fall asleep again, wait until it gets dark, okay?”

She didn’t hear him. She just closed her eyes. She seemed to enjoy his touch though. They have been together for two years now and Dominik loved her still so much. And he knew she did too. Already they have so many nice memories together. It didn’t matter that many of them were shared dreams. Dominik had the ability to enter the dreams of others. He couldn’t do much, just witness them together with the other person. It’s not something he could control, he just appeared in the dreams of the person closest to him.

He put the drawing board aside and laid down next to Reeve, took her hand and kissed her on the cheek. She turned her head and opened her eyes to look at him.
“Who are you?” she asked. She did not freak out, seeing a face she did not recognize so close to hers.
“Dominik. You remember me?”
“Are we friends?”
“More than that.”
Her face brightened up when she remembered him.
“Dominik!” she said as she embraced him as if they haven’t seen each other for a month. She kissed him and laughed. “I didn’t know you could breathe out here!”
“Why, are we in space?”
“Yes, silly, don’t you see the spaceships and stars?” she pointed to the clouds.
“Oh, I guess you’re right.”
“You’re always so silly, Nikki! I love that.”
“What are we doing in space?”
“The Celisma Sun changes color today! And I got us a special place, see? We’ve got it all for ourselves!”
“What color will it be?”
“It is blue now. It’ll either be violet or green. I don’t know.”
“I bet it’ll be violet.”
“That’s your favourite color isn’t it?”
“No, it’s yours!”
“Oh… yes! Glad you remembered! Watch now, it’s changing!”
Dominik tried to imagine the world she saw. It looked so beautiful. He hoped she would dream of it tonight. He snuggled up to her and watched as the sky turned violet as the sun fell behind the horizon.
